Three stories

Twenty years

This is Preston 3twenty

To celebrate Preston Guild in 2012, an ambitious, unique and long-lasting literature project was launched.

Preston 3twenty

Preston 3twenty began in 2012 and will end at the next Preston Guild in 2032, and in the intervening years will engage and delight audiences in with a portmanteau tale of Preston future, Preston past and Preston present.

Three different writers will write a story every year for 20 years. The stories will cover 100 years of Preston life from 1972 - 2072. Each of the three writers will begin their story from a different point in time and all stories will end in 2032. The first writer began their story in 1972, and the focus was on the past. The second writer began their story in 2012 and told the contemporary story of Preston as it is now. The third writer began in 2072 and told a story of Preston’s future, working backwards to end in 2032. Each year another three writers will take up the baton and the story will continue.

The first three writers were David Gaffney, Richard Evans and Claire Massey, and their stories were recorded by actors and were available on MP3 as walking tours of Preston town centre.

Year two’s writers have not yet been selected, but once they have, they will continue the stories in 2013 – and then on it goes!

Here are some photos of Claire, Richard and David reading their stories for Preston 3twenty on a live walkabout city tour.
